Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

REGISTRATION's CLOSED for Sunday June 10 free Sacramento aquaponics tour!

Hi again everyone, yep, tour's full.  If you wanted to participate but didn't get a chance to get in on this one, will have to catch you next time.  Stay in touch!

_______________________

There's been huge interest in the June 10 tour.  That's great, but we'll have to stop taking registrations as of 9:00 pm Pacific time, Thursday, May 31, in order not to exceed the capacity of the locations to handle the numbers of people and cars.  After that, for those who have not registered and who would have wanted to attend but will not be able to, you have my condolences.

Original tour announcement is below:

_______________________

At last, details on our upcoming tour of local aquaponics set-ups are ready!  As it stands now, there will be 5 stops (3 in Sac, 1 in West Sac, and 1 in Fairfield).  We’ll start in Sac at 10:00 am and finish in Sac about 5:00 pm (or around 2:00 pm for those who choose not to go to Fairfield).  We have a nice variety of systems to show off.  There is no charge to come on the tour, but you must register ahead of time to get directions where to go, so that we know how many to expect.

Some logistics:

Bring your own lunch:  Note that tour runs right through the noon hour in order to maximize number of systems on the tour and time at each system.  I suggest you bring a bag lunch to eat on the way.

No smoking at any of the tour stops.  If you are going to smoke, please do so elsewhere before arriving at a tour stop.

Wheelchair access:  most the sites have a bit of uneven ground, grass, or maybe a step or two.  Please let me know ahead of time if you have any questions about physical access.

Rest rooms:  don’t count on tour stops opening up their homes for rest room use.  You may need to use nearby gas stations, restaurants, etc.

Children:  Although the tour isn’t specifically oriented toward children, it’s fine for you to bring your kid(s) as long as you take full responsibility for them at all times.

To register, email the following information to me at joezbro@gmail.com:

Your name(s):  ___________________________________________________

email address where I can send you the tour instructions ahead of time (or, can use forum Message if you and I are "Friends" on this forum):  __________________

phone number (preferably a cell phone that you’ll have with you on June 10):  __________________

How many people in your party:  ___

Rides:  Will you have room in your vehicle to offer someone else a ride from the first stop to the rest of the stops?  Yes/No

If Yes, how many riders you could take?  ___

Or, will you be needing a ride between stops?   Yes/No

Do you have any mobility issues or other special needs we should be aware of? _____________________________________________________________

Indicate here that you have read the information above and below and agree to abide by those conditions:  Yes/No

When you send me the info above, I will email you instructions on where you should arrive at 10:00 am on June 10.  The instructions will include location, directions, map, etc.  You should print all that out and bring it with you.

As will be mentioned in the instructions I send you:  please do not circulate the instructions beyond those in your party.  Don’t share them with other people by email or otherwise, and do not post them on this forum or elsewhere on the internet.  This is for two reasons.  One is that many, many people have a casual curiosity about aquaponics, and if we include all those people in the tour, we could easily have 100+ people on the tour, and we cannot accommodate those kinds of numbers.  The tour is primarily for local people who are serious about aquaponics.  Secondly, the tour stops are people’s private homes, and out of respect for their privacy, we do not want to circulate their home addresses any more widely than necessary.

Thank you!  I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing our knowledge and enthusiasm in person.  I think this event will be a big step forward in developing our local aquaponics community.

Hope to hear from you soon.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.

Sounds like fun, Paul. If there's room after locals sign up, I'd love to join you. And I can bring some fingerlings with free delivery if any would like.
