Hey all!  I wanted to promote the Chat feature of the website.  It's located at the bottom of the home page and I've found it useful.  You might even have noticed some funny beeping/chirping noises from your computer when visiting the Aquaponic Gardening website.  That's us talking to each other, and probably saying hello to you when we see you access the website. (you can see who's online)  So make sure your sound is on and listen for the beeps of inspired conversation. (that wouldn't be mine btw)  :)

Chi Ma and I noticed that we're the only ones getting the opportunity to pick the brains of aquaponics veteran TCLynx in real time.  She's been very gracious offering some of her time.  She's been helpful to me and answered some important questions.  It's also fun to get to know Her and Chi.  I think it adds to the feeling of community.  We're hoping some more of you will stop in a say "Hi!".  So try it out, you might like it!

How do you use the chat application? Is it private chat or can you post short comments to the entire community? Please explain. (insert perplexed emotocon)

Eric, Shhhhh...don't tell anyone. I just asked Sylvia the other day, how to use it myself.

Once you write something in the small box in the lower left corner....hit the 'enter key' on your key board.

I kept looking for something to 'click on'...like 'send'......still laughing at my self.

 

Not sure about the 'private chat' question...?  Looks like everyone 'signed in', sees it.

Well, I always thought it was just on the home page! Lookee lookee, The chat is down on the bottom right of every page! How clever! That explains the chat beeping when I am not on the home page.

 

There is both a public chat, and a private chat. To use the private chat, click on a persons name on the right half of the chat window and some options pop down, one of which is private chat.

I just added to the instructions about Chat on the How to Use this Site page given some of the questions that have popped up here (and David, I think you just hadn't had your coffee yet...).  Would you guys read what I said and let me know if you would say anything differently or add anything?  Gracias.

It says "Chat - Just feel like chatting?  Join in!  Enter your comment in the box and hit 'Enter' to join the conversation.  Or chat privately with someone by clicking on their name.  But if you want to turn off the notification sound you can do so with the volume slider next to the smiley face.  You can also pop-out the chat box with the Pop-out button in the upper right corner."  What do you know reading closely is useful

David you don't need to feel bad because you were looking for something to click.  I have done the same thing and finally gave up.  Thanks Paul for bringing it up.  One of my problems is I am remembering the chats from long ago.  They were a waste of time and people usually spent their time insulting other people.  I usually read what others are saying.  Thanks Sylvia for putting it on How to use the site I did try to find the answer there one time. It's a good thing to have because we can bounce ideas instantaneously off each other without cluttering the forums and discussions. And its a good way to goof around.
