I started messing around with tilapia 2006-2010

2010 - the end of july i had to take  my system down

i am currently trying to get a piece of property to set up a scaled system.

basickly i dont have a system that is running

but i want to share my last 4 years with aquaponics

with members.......

Good job Francois, the plants are very healthy and growing well. I would like to know what temperature you have recorded?

Is it air temp. or water temp? Thks.

i cut the basil and cellery this morning...

the basil is not good quality...feed to the worms

the cellery..grows well and little maintenance

air temp inside the tunnel has been around 10-12 deg c in the morning

and 25-30 in the afternoon's on sunny days.

Update on plants and fish

the fish currently in this system

4/8/2011 i added 5 Kio….
4 left out of 5 and 2 are now 150mm long
and the other 2 are +-250-280… 1 died

2/9/2011 80 tilapia males only .....
only 12 left +-150-180mm…
my stupidity…
I did the damage to them within a few days…

27/9/2011 7 off 40mm Kio and 4 off 100mm Kio…
lost 1 of the 100mm Kio
= 10 left +-200-280mm

15/11/2011 15 Kio 10-20mm into my duckweed trays ….
found 2 dead flouting ….
some are still alive and +-50 mm long…..how many survived ?????? let’s say 7 out of 15 survived

4+12+10+7=33 fish in this system…and very happy

Hi all
update on plants and fish
very cold now…water temps +-12-16 deg Celsius
Morning temps inside the tunnel are +-10 deg
The fish are still eating but halve of what they did a month ago….
I find they are more eager for worms in the cold temps…
I have been feeding them a good helping of worms almost
Every day since the low temps.
As far as the plants ……
Over the last +-20 days I also have not added anything
Into the system water…but
All I have been doing is spraying the plants with brewed worm tea….
What left of the 5 litres I add into the system?
I use +- 8 full hands of castings in 5 l water and brew for +-12-20 hrs.
And then feeding the fish pellets and the worms

I found this pray mantes on my window sill and put him into my plant area...
He has stayed around for +-8 days now and he has been doing an excellent job of the aphids....him all on his own
I was using a very weak soup solution for the aphids before...slightly burning the plant leaves but....had/have to get rid of them...
I found the perfect solution....and it works/////
