Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

USDA has some new zone maps out. Below is the Florida detail. I've also attached a zone 9 planting guide which covers a band across central Florida but would likely be fine for all but the extreme north and south parts of the state.

Thank you Ron :-)

God bless,

Thanks.  As a matter of curiosity, the Steele Plant Company does not agree with respect to the best time to plant sweet potatoes.  I'm especially interested in their bush varieties.  As with most plants at our place, some will go in the ground and some in my aquaponics media beds.  Happy Gardening.  G

I had no luck with sweet potatoes - I don't think it was the aquaponics but rather the squirrel that took baths under the verticals. He ate them.

That is because every geographic area will have a different time that's right for planting.  It not only varies from place to place, but from year to year, etc.  I haven't checked it against my references, but it might prove useful as a good rule of thumb for newbies.

No,  I believe I compared zone 9 to zone 9.

Correct.  My response was in regards to the context you set forth in your previous message.

I plant sweet potatoes as soon as I can get the slips after all danger of frosts are past (they usually get to us far later than necessary because they come from places that are colder than FL usually) but I've planted them as late as July and still gotten nice potatoes by October or November.
