Just liners plus

is where I've often gotten liners.

A 20' by 50' looks like it would cost $500 from them but I'm sure the shipping charges would more than make up the difference (probably has to ship by freight.)

Warning, a 20' by 50' 45 mil epdm pond liner is gonna weigh quite a bit  Double check their "delivered fast & free" to make sure there isn't a weight limit on which items over $99 are included.

Hi Aquaponics Forum members, I need your comments on the profitability of a commercial Aquaponics business, I found an article discusses this issue, here it is

What is your openion?

Hi Safwat,

You might want to start your own Forum for this discussion, as you will probably get more responses, this Forum was made to discuss Pond liner.

But I would point you to Green Acre Organics,

They have a business going, and do train for a price.     They really have a great setup.

Cheers.

or, get a 20' x 60' used billboard for $132.  it's basically 'duraskrim'.  if you want it thicker, simply double up a layer...order one twice as wide/long, or get two.

Thanks for the tip Averan,

I have been reading up on these and I see a major hurdle I need to overcome, which is tree roots.    I have massive oak trees around me and I am not sure this is such a wize idea to use pond liner verses perhaps doing cement.

I bought a billboard tarp about 15 X 40 was originally going to use this for a floating raft bed, but now I really like the idea of a wicking grow bed.     The thought of this getting a rip in it has made me want to switch over to Firestone 45 mill     It is TOOO much work cleaning gravel, then moving it for me to do this two times.

An idea that has come to me is to use Old carpet for the underlayment of pond.     Still not sure exactly which way I am going, but love to hear other ideas to explore and compare with my situation.

with just about any type of liner installation, you'll want to put something down under it.  some use weed cloth, old carpet would be perfect too.

the billboard tarp is perfect for rafts or wicking beds.  this stuff is rip-resistant...have you tested its durability yourself?  i've even patched an old drainage hole in one using two pieces of the same material glued together from both sides with non-toxic aquarium sealant and has held perfectly.  you're only going to get a rip if you accidentally stab it with a sharp object.  if you can prevent that from happening you'll be ok.  even then, just let the bed drain and glue a patch of tarp over the hole.

i'm not convinced a tree would poke a hole in it, more likely the roots would simply grow along the bottom soaking up any condensation or accumulation of moisture.  the advantage of a flexible liner is that the shape can be distorted by tree roots underneath without impairing its function of retaining water.  cement can be cracked.

if you laid down carpet, then a double layer of billboard tarp i'm sure you'd be fine.  even a single layer would suffice.

don't just take my word for it though!  :)

If the bed is being filled with gravel, I'd go with the EPDM.  Also, I trust the EPDM against tree roots far better than cement for the cracking reason.

The billboard liners, I would be willing to try one on a raft bed but I've done that and the one I had was leaking to the point that I couldn't patch all the holes and I wound up buying some pond liner to line the bed.  And simply putting more layers of something that is leaking doesn't necessarily stop it from leaking (I've actually had to totally re-do an ornamental pond for some one that had done that.  The muliple layers of leaking plastic and liner were not working in that situation and it was really rather nasty to pull them all out.

Old carpet is a favorite underliner for ponds and a pretty handy way to get rid of some nasty old carpet.  Just make very sure you remove all carpet tacks, nails and staples before using it under your liner you are trying to protect.

Thank you Halemart for the link.
