I seem to recall some where on this site early on there was a growing list of state by state resources but I'm not remembering where to find it at the moment.

Hi Josh,

is this josh from cabrillo?

I think there is a trout farm in half moon bay or near there. They might have fingerlings. Dont know the name, but Deluxe foods in RDM buys from them and may tell you how to contact them.

Trout need very high O2 levels, pretty fast moving water as i heard, very high protein in their food and cold water that will make it hard to grow plants.

have you contacted the dept of fish and game?

The fish guy was a guy helping Watsonville HS with an aquaculture program but did not get going, and I can no longer find his contact info.

another spot to try is Phils fish market, not for fish but for leads on people with fish

peter

Trout like cool water but don't think that makes the water too cool to grow plants (plants actually like the water cooler than tilapia need it really) Anyway, cold water might make it a challenge to start certain seeds that want bottom warmth to germinate but the Aussies grow lots of aquaponic plants with trout as a fish of choice for many aquaponic systems. Just remember not to over stock the system (as is so often done with fish like tilapia since they seem to do well enough in deplorable conditions) and keep the water quality top notch with good aeration and flow rates.
State of California Resources agency Deptment firsh and game they have a list of registered aquaculturists.

Ship to Shore Aquafarms in Bakersfield has channel cats, no trout. Let me know if you find anyplace closer for either.

Janice, and Josh if you're still looking after two years, I sell catfish, bluegill, green sunfish, crappie, red ear sunfish, Sacramento blackfish, Sacramento perch, sturgeon, tilapia, striped bass, black bass, red claw Crawdads, and trout. I'm in Santa Cruz, and I ship. Jonparrco@gmail.com

Janice, I'll be running a catfish order to Pescadero Aquaponics soon, I can bring fish for you at the same time if you like

Fantastic! I am not ready for fish yet, I wanted to make sure of what was readily available before I designed my systems. I would love to get more info from you on the different varieties you have because I was considering the benefits of combining a few species in the same tank. Is it possible you would have time to meet with me for about an hour sometime in the next few weeks so I could pick your brain about the varieties that you offer? It would be helpful for me to see your setup if you are open to that. I am just putting together a residential system but hope to use it as an educational tool to help others get set up as well, so I would like to have as much variety as I can. I have four 150 gal tanks so I will probably set up 3 separate systems using two joined together for the trout, not sure yet.

Janice, I'm organizing a local AP tour for Santa Cruz on August 18th. Come on over

How'd tour go more planned?

Good, Craig. Pics here:

More tours? Sure. I'm happy to get the ball rolling for a tour in your area if you like. I'm not planning a tour here again yet, but will again sometime. I know of enough beatiful AP gardens in the east bay to do a tour there, but I'm swamped for a month or so.

Awesome, whenever you get the chance hit me up. Would love to visit some places with ya. Know any commercial ones in the area as well?

Do you have some kind of email list to let me know when new tours come up?

Craig, my email is jonparrco@gmail.com. I'll keep news posted when my website gets launched, which hopefully will be in the next week.

I'm now commercial, and my friend Kenji Snow on this site is commercial in pescadero. Santa Cruz aquaponics was commercial in Watsonville, but now defunct. I don't know of any others.
