I am guessing that you have not cycled your system.  Without an Ammonia and Nitrite test kit you will have to rely on your nose.  Smell the water everyday.  If it begins to smell bad or like fish then the grow bed (your bio filter) is not doing it's job.  If it smells you should change the 1/2 of the water with new water.  Never wash the gravel.  The gravel will grow good bacteria and keep your water clean.

This is a very small system.  You may be better off growing something small like lettuce.

i use water from deepwell that is why its little bit salty. i don't have also water test kit that is why i don't know how many ph on the water.
