Swirl filters remove solids. Bio filters contain bacteria which completes the nitrification cycle from Ammonia to Nitrate.  Both are important.  Solids will build up a slime on the roots and the plants will die.  Nitrite and Ammonia will kill the fish, but Nitrate is required to grow plants.

I would not use CFL bulbs again and will replace them soon.  T5 bulbs are OK but Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH) are far better.

The CFL bulbs output a 5000K to 6500K spectrum of light. Ordinary incandescent bulbs cannot be used as grow lights because the light spectrum is wrong.   Here are some articles I've written about lights.  CLICK HERE

Dear Arsenio,

Good day! Actually hindi mo ako inabala, kung hindi, napasaya mo ako. I am very glad to know may kabayan ako na gusto itong matutunan.  Sa experience ko, mahirap magpatubo ng ilang halaman gamit ang tubig sa deep well dito, nagrereact sila sa mineral content, mas maganda kung sweet water o kaya yung bottled water, anyway, sa isang linggo, isang 5 gallon bottle lang ang kailangan mong ireplenish sa system. if you will do it indoors kailangan tama ang amount ng ilaw at init. in my studies, magandang gumamit ng blue and red CFL, sana ay makapagpost ka ng mga pictures dito sa site na ito or sa FB or Youtube, i invite you sa aking ginawang Jeddah Gardeneres Club sa FB  at sa aking YGermino channel sa youtube, for some videos, again, welcome and i hope you can also encourage other Filipinos to do the same, inshallah

hi Arsenio nice to know a kabayan is also interested.  I am in jeddah and had been doing aquaponics (with all its challenges) here, alhamdulillah i was able to grow cucumber, ampalaya, kamote, basil, kangkong, bell pepper and brocolli - but only during cooler months unless you will do it indoors....  anyway, good luck to your journey back to the philippines, marami nang gumagawa nyan duon at mas maganda dahil sa weather and supplies...magandang pagkakitaan yan, inshalla
