Im still trying to get all my numbers together. I researched and everything is more specific and in smaller numbers so Im back asking. If you have 1000 Tilapia  fingerlings starting out in 4 2500 gal…Continue

Calculating water in NFT

Ok I know and understand square footage of the media beds, its an easy calculation if you have 4 x 8 x 1 ft bed then you have 32 sq ft. When you calculate fish/sq ft ratio its usually 1 lb/sq ft of…Continue

I'm trying to put together a BCA (Business Case Analysis) for commercial AP operation. I have come across a few things that I'm not sure about. If you guys could help me out a little here I would…Continue

"Interesting that what they call a geyser ejection pump has been patent under the name pneumatic ejector pump. I see that this document dates back to June of 2014. Aquatic Ecosystems (Pentair) does not seem to carry any of these. The domain name for…"

"Yes all airlift style pumps including geyser style must have their water intake submerged to some extent. Attached is a chart for the Kondo geyser pump showing submergence ratio and efficiency. They show a ratio of up to 1/10 for the geyser ejection…"

"I believe they do.  All air lifts must release air below the surface of the water you wish to pump.  I haven't seen an exception to this."

"Hi Brian! Sorry it was late when I wrote that. I should have written that rule of thumb for best efficiency with an airlift  is to have the air released 2 times deeper than you want to lift it. Sure you can get away with less but then you will…"

"Fredrick check your facts on the pumps. The air lift style must have its lower end below the water surface the same distance as the outlet is above the surface, not twice as much. The geyser style pumps do not need this submergence at all."

"So far I have seen three basic types of devices for pumping water with air: Air lifts - These are air bubbles pushing up through a column of water to lift the water. Simplest but also the least efficient. 2:1 ration is the rule of thumb. If you…"

"Yeah, no kidding; however, in theory it could be done, according to Glenn's demonstrations.  I have trouble understanding the videos but it appears that he is showing a couple of different types of air lifts, some with air injected into a…"

"I watched a few videos with Glenn in them showing his work. His pumps are definitely geyser pumps and they work great. did actually mean the fill/drain cycle btw. Anyway, I see now that trying to match up the geyser pump slug to a fill/drain cycle…"

George replied to Hollis Armstrong's discussion Can anyone explain the Ben Glenn Aquazen?
"You mean the flood and drain cycle, I take it.  I definitely pump enough water and lift it high enough with a 40 watt air pump to service a couple of media beds - it's not a geyser.  Glenn runs a system of 4 large media beds with one…"

"Cycling, when referenced in aquaponics, usually has to do with the initial establishing of nitrifying bacteria. All types of air lifts aerate water while lifting. I see two advantages of the geyser over other air lifts, (1) requires less pumping…"

"Thanks for sharing your research. I am a wannabe aquapon. I have done rudimentary research on the geyser pumps and believe it to be the most efficient way because you aereate your water the same time as pumping it in slugs. Since pumping water in…"

Commercial Bug

Thought I would update my status. I have the AP bug really bad. I have been consumed by AP since the first time I looked at a system online. I got excited and started immediately looking at a way to create an AP system in my yard. Well the more I read and the more I got excited the bigger the picture got.

Now Im looking at purchasing 73 acres on the edge of Bankhead Nation Forest in the southern half of Lawrence County Alabama. It is completely surrounded by NF (National…

Just Starting My Planning

Posted on January 27, 2015 at 8:25pm 0 Comments

I just ran across aquaponics yesterday and Im as excited as a kid in a candy store with a $100 gift card. I can seem to absorb all the information quick enough because my mind is spinning with ideas of how I can create an aquaponics system that will work best for my family and accommodations (I live in a small town).

I am diabetic and desire to eat healthier than I have in the past. Fish and green leafy veggies are at the top of my list. Zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers,…
