So, I've been avoiding facebook etc., my friends make fun of me. I just know myself well enough to know that I have an addictive personality and look, I'm already hooked, I friended my first person ever and just can't wait to see what's next. When my husband get's home and realizes I've been thinking up "creative games" to keep the kids busy while mom's bloggin...awesome, will look into the Chicago recommendation (I lived there for 3 years) boy has my life changed...thanks again, will talk soon have to do some constructive parenting before the guilt get's to me
TCLynx, I see you know quite a bit about hydroponics. I posted a message in the "beginners" group. If you have time would you read it? I would be interested in any input you have.
You know I was kidding in the bluegill discussion right? That was not a well thought out counter point at all. The point is, there hasn't been a study done specifically on growth rates between strains of bluegill or sunfish. Generally throwing out, "well it is a well known fact" doesn't work for me. Proof works for me. Right now for instance, the yellow perch from Mass. are currently growing faster than the ones from North Carolina. It is not published yet b/c they are seeing if year class three and four will grow bigger and faster. I am off my soap box now. I apologize for ranting.
Thanks for the friendship invite. Where abouts in Michigan are you from? I live in SW Michigan near Lake Michigan in Bangor Township close to South Haven.
Glad to start up friendship from up here in Georgia.I have heavy experience in permaculture sustainable design, but not much in aquaponics,so I know that you all could show me a lot in this area.Sooooo I'm looking forward to the teachings(smiles.....Take care, and I shall be talking to you later....Peaceeeeeeeee....."Dee
Just wanted to let you know I finally found a business partner. Should be official next week. I will explain what we are doing when everything is finalized. Hope all is well!!!
Brown & Rainbow trout are native to the streams here in Northern California, as are Steelhead and Salmon. They thrive in cold water, but die quickly if it gets too warm. I was thinking of harnessing some geothermal properties of the earth by digging down a ways for the fish tank/pond in hopes of keeping the temperature more stable as the seasons change. Is that practical? Or would I have to dig too far down to get any thermal advantage?
No I haven't but I will, it sounds good, right now I'm just ignorance on fire Thanks so much for viewing my site too. Every day I learn more and more. I'm planning to attend a training in Orlando at the end of this month for Commercial Aquaponics provided by Friendly Aquaponics Inc. I'm also want to become an affiliate and trainer as well. I'm sure I'll have to have my location up and running for some time before that happens, but that's the plan.
Thanks, I'm learning it not easy, but I'm committed to getting my first greenhouse built before my late sister's birthday which is April 5th. If you get a chance, chect out my website and let me know what you think. http://www.majestic-green.org I welcome all the advice I can get.
I submitted a question to FWC to make sure, but I think I found the answer to my question about catfish needing a Florida permit via the following link:

#9 refers to keeping a few fish for a hobby. A permit is apparently needed if you sell the fish, not if you keep "a few aquaria".
Hi TCLynx,
I ran across something today I wanted to ask you about. Apparently aquaculturists need a certification in FL. Does this apply to aquaponics as well?
