Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Update on our aquaponic adventure...

The algae problem seems to be resolving itself thanks to TCLynx and others suggestion of wrapping the fish tank and blocking as much sunlight as possible. I noticed after a few days my water seems to be less green and more clean ... which is a great thing.

Still no fish in the cycling system but our chemistry has been improving. I am still doseing 2 oz. of ammonia a day and the ammonia and nitrite levels return to zero or near zero within 24 hours.

Levels today were as follow;

Ammonia         0
Nitrite               0
Nitrate             20
PH High           8
PH                   7.6

I am very happy with these levels so far. What do ya'll think?

Also, I re-arranged the mesh tarp above our system to give it a broader shade area throughout the day. Florida sun can be brutal on the plants as well as evaporation of the fish tank.

We are looking forward to visit from a fellow aquapon,  Ned Berndt on Saturday, who is in the process of putting a system together and he wanted to check ours out.

That's all for now I will be adding more pictures this weekend. Stay tuned.

Regards,

Bob & Marcia

P.S. I am a little disappointed in the slow growth of my veggies.
