An update to my AP system: it's been almost 6 months since I established my system, I see alot of improvements in plant growth as well as the fish. So far I was successful in growing lettuce, pepper cress, green beans and tomatoes. I am experimenting now on growing cucumbers. My AP system is still used for experimental purposes, it is located oudoors on my south East balcony in Santa Barbara area, Southern California, unfortunately it is illegal to grow tilapia here, so I am growing goldfish instead.

Tilapia are legal in Southern CA. My father in Montecito set up a system and got his fish from one of the HUGE tilapia farms near Palm Springs. Tilapia are not the best choice there though because the cool winters. Tilapia will stop eating when the water gets cool and will die if too cold. You would be better off with some bass or blue gill from Lake Cachuma.

Do you have any problems with high pH from the city water? My father did and gave up.
