"I'm wanting to start my system off with Koi but it seems like you need deep pockets to buy them all at once. Did you have to pay a pretty penny for 125 fish or am i just shoppin in the wrong places?"

My Aquaponic Hub

How's everyone doing today? I hope well. I have been planning to build my aquaponic set up for sometime now ( 5 months ) but there always seems to be this little thing that keeps becoming an issue... money lol. In the mean time, while I save up money and collect recycled supplies for my set up, I wanted to create a way for people to stay up to date with fellow growers. I came to the realization that most people won't comment or ask questions on here for whatever reason. What I have done is, I…See More

Green Acre Aquaponics

This is a group for those that want to stay connected with Green Acre Aquaponics. At Green Acre, we are focused on optimizing commercial growing with the newest techniques and technologies for integrated system growing.  Recognizing the value of integrating media bed growing into raft (DWC) technology, this hybrid aquaponics design optimizes nutrient density by allowing the additional metabolization of valuable solids typically removed from DWC systems. Why remove the most valuable element in…See More

Hi Tony, there was no previous design that I went off of, just looked at a lot of pictures of commercial greenhouses, got some ideas from mhpgardener on youtube and a lot of brainstorming....keep in mind I had never built anything before and also have never grown anything either....since I did not know how much I would like it or if it was going to work, I wanted to spend as little as possible...this GH is 32 x 80...if I were going to build another one or bigger, I would probably go with a commercial designed kit from someone like Atlas...this GH I built in my spare time after work and on the weekends with little help from anyone, and as I could afford to put some money into it...will it survive a hurricane?? probably not...but if it gets blown down, I just put it back up...for me, this all started when a friend gave me a aquarium about a year ago and I started breeding African Cichlids...good luck with whatever you try...

Welcome TonyP!

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community!  I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics.  There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions.  Everyone is quite happy to help out new members--no question is too basic.

A great place to start is to read the “How to Use This Site” link on the upper right corner, “Start Here” section of the Home page.  You might also find the “Aquaponic Gardening Rules of Thumb” guidelines helpful.

Please participate and check in with us every day!  We are constantly posting news about aquaponics and the good food movement.

Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you.
