How did you find us?
Aquaponic Gardening Blog
Are you an aquaponic gardener already?
Yes
If so, what type of system? (pick all that apply)
1000 gallon ferrocement pond, which balances our acidic rain with it's alkaline properties, with a starter batch of small Koi and Comets, and 4 wild Tilapia. The bed is an 20"x8'x11" deep raised bed which gravity drains to pond, and hosts a colony of India Blue composting worms. Even though Hawaii seems like an ideal place for growing food, it's chilly at 3600 ft, and rain-soaked soil makes it difficult. I'm hoping aquaponics is the answer.
How old is your system?
6 mos - 1 yr
What type of fish do you grow with? (select all that apply)
Goldfish, Koi, Tilapia, Catfish
How big is your fish tank?
1000 gallons
Please tell us something else about yourself.
Love to play in the ocean- surfing, free diving, fishing, kayaking, and learning to sail.

Thanks Shawn. We are making a business out of aquaponics based on community demand. How is your system going? Last month I added a gravel bed and could not be happier with it. Have you had any problems with your gravel clogging or have the worms been doing their job? Any luck with wassibi?

Aloha Shawn.
Were you looking for catfish about a month ago? I thing we might have communicated previously. I now use a different email address. You are welcome to come by my farm any time you are in the Kona area. We are north of town, near the upper highway, and above the airport.
Your climate there in Volcano might make it perfect for growing wassibi, which likes cool water. It is a very high dollar crop. I would like to grow it myself but I think my water temp, at 70 deg, is too high.

Hey Shawn, On your WordPress theme, pop open the footer.php and add a < in front of the iframe tag. It seems to have disappeared. :)

There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to join in. Always thrilled to have experienced growers join us – please post some photos of your system!
