"For Alajuela, near San Jose, Costa Rica check out the PVC manufacturer Durman.  They have many PVC parts including bulkheads.  EPA and other Ferriterias also sell general PVC pipe and fittings."

Hey Roger,

The Bug Zapper I am using just stuns them instead of fry's them.  Its a Stinger 1/2 Acre Outdoor Insect Killer.

The drums are still way thicker than the kiddie pools. I forgot to mention to you 2 other issues. The pool only allows for a gravel bed depth of 8 inches. Which is really not that bad. The other issue I am having is with the pipeing for the bell siphone drain. I put a 90 after the pipeing exits the pool then a 1 inch to 1/2 inch reducer to create back pressure to help the siphone to start. Then I increased the pipeing back to 1 inch and another 90 with about an 10 inch piece of 1 inch to drain back to my pond below. After a few monthe this assembly started to sag causeing issues with the bell siphone working properly. The grow bed would sit with water in it until I was able to go out and correct it. This issue will be fixed by tieing the pipeing assembly up level again. I don't know if the drums are hard to get there in Costa Rica or not but I would use them or something else with more meat to it than the Kiddie pool. I have seen videos on Youtube with people useing the drums and the work very well. Sorry this is so long but I want to give you as much info as possible. I don't want to stop you from trying something that may work for you. God knows I am no genius. I don't always see what others do right off the bat. Sometimes I have to hit that brick wall head on before I get it.

Hi Roger,

The kiddie pool was a temp deal. It is made of very thin plastic. I knew this when I bought it. The weight of the pea gravel started to bow the sides out. I would use the plastic 55 gal drums. They are made of thicker plastic and make a very nice small system or even a large system if you line them up together. I hope this helps you out.

Hi Roger,

I checked out your Monster Directory. Very interesting. Are you the creator of the Legacy product? It's an attractive piece.

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community! I hope you find it a great place to explore aquaponics. I’ve started the ball rolling with a few general forum topics, and will try to add more on a regular basis, but I’m hoping that you and others will add your own topics as they occur to you. I’ve also added some of my favorite videos and a few random photos…again, please share your favorites with us!

We have just a few simple rules: stay on the subject of aquaponics and keep it cordial (no flaming!). If someone decides to break these rules they will get a warning, and then be banned from the community after that. But of course I’m hoping that never happens!

Thanks again for joining us, and I look forward to getting to know you.

Sylvia
