NEWBIES!!

After running out of garlic on a weekly basis, despite how much we try to hold on to, and having to run to the store for lettuce and spices, we've decided to grow a vegetable garden.  We went online and looked up different ways to create grow beds when we ran across AP systems.  We love Tilapia and we want to give our plants the best opportunity, which is hard to do here in AZ. 

So now we grow plants and raise fish in an AP system with hopes of creating a cyclical system that will help sustain our family. 

It also makes fishing much easier.

Hi J,

Would like to give you a heads up on the freshwater Prawn. To raise more for continuous growth you need to have saltwater tanks.  A good alternative would be to raise "Red Claw Crayfish".  Each female lays 100 -300 eggs on an average, they taste great and you can eat and grow all year long.  Craig

Well I've been farming worms awhile and I love to garden. I do research all the time on both and am just starting to learn about the vermiponics. Since I have plenty of worms, I was thinking about trying it out. From all of the pictures I've seen online, it's hard to tell exactly how the systems are built. I'm just trying to get an idea of everything needed to start a system and how to go about setting one up in detail. I'd love to try growing all different veggies and fruits. Anything you can share would be very helpful.

As for the worms, you are right. The average rate of reproduction is doubling every 90 days in a perfect environment.

By the way. I'd love to learn more about vermiponics/aquaponics from you. I know you are just getting into it as well, but I'm sure you are much more knowledgable in those areas already than I. Hello and thanks for contacting me. I'm running the business out of my home at this time. I'm located off of 75 ave and Lower Buckeye. I can meet up with you somewhere that may be a little closer if that would be better for you. I was told not to have customers come to my residence by my attorney and believe the reason for that is to avoid too much traffic in an HOA area. You can email me at HamiltonOrganics@gmail.com . My price is $27.32 per pound, including tax. It is worm weight, not combined weight with the bedding. I harvest them when ordered by hand so please give me a couple hours notice. Hello. I'm not yet too knowledgable about aquaponics or vermiponics, but I'm trying to learn. I noticed you had a post asking about a local source for red wigglers. I am that source in west Phoenix. I love to garden, which is why I started my company. Knowing the benefits of worm castings has me wanting to learn more about vermiponics and this forum seemed like an excellent place to learn.

Thanks for joining the Aquaponic Gardening community!  I hope you find it a fun place to explore aquaponics.  There is a real blend of experienced and new aquapons in this community, so please don’t hesitate to get in there and start asking questions.  Everyone is quite happy to help out new members – no question is too basic.
