Economic fish tank

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 9:25pm 2 Comments

A simple way to make a economic fish tank strong and large is to buy a round bale feeder "tractor supply" the dimentions are 8'D by 45"H price range from $99.00 to 300.00 cover it on the inside diameter with 1/4" plywood or pvc panels "Home depot or Lowe's" $14.00, 19.00 screw the panels with self taping screws on the inside of the bale and ad a pond liner.Fill with water 3' H and you have a fish tank of 1,130 gallons @ 7gallolns p/fish 189 fish +- It can be reinforced if desire.

I wouldn't use Sure To Grow in a vertical pipe with indented pockets.  You'll never get the stuff to stay in place...it will all eventually sag down into the bottom of the pipe.  Also, in a vertical arrangement I think you will have trouble with solids building up too quickly and plugging up the pipe at one of the first indentations.  Sure To Grow is almost like peat moss or coir...it is VERY absorbent/wicking like a sponge!  Maybe the 'cubes' are different though?  I've only tried the loose fill; I'm not sure if the 'cubes' hold their shape and stay cubic once they are fully soaked.

I only got my first Aquaponic Bluegill this past spring so I don't have experience with breeding them in an aquaponics system yet (Haven't even eaten one from the system yet as they are still a bit small.)  I do know some one who was raising Bluegill in a swimming pool and he said they did breed and I don't think he bothered with sand or gravel in the bottom of the pool.

Thinshell home Design

That picture is a proposed home design.  Has not been built since the economy went crazy and not sure I'll ever be able to build it now unless I win the lottery since it is now impossible to get a loan to build anything but a same old box house.
