I originally posted this article on my personal food blog, but wanted to share it here for anyone that is interested.
I have enjoyed listening to country music since the days of eight track tapes, a.m. radio's, and first generation Sony Walkman. Tammy Wynette, George Jones, and Tom T. Hall were regulars on Kansas City's 61 Country station that we listened to all day long whether in…

The Bluegills or Sunfish come from Holloway Reservoir two miles away. I go down there and find the fishermen and ask them to catch me a dozen small ones and I just pay them $20.00 Since I'm not raising them to sell for food or at the market. it doesn't matter as to them being totally pure breed fish or not. I'm only looking for there poop right.

Then I realized that the bacteria in my growbeds were probably not as active as they were freezing and the ammonia and nitrate levels were getting high so I moved a smaller FT into my garage and insulated it with closed cell polypropylene foam and painters plastic. I did this last week and everything seems to be working fine. The fish and plants are happy and there is snow on the ground this morning.Good Luck with the cold up here
Hello Brian, I am a new arrival to MI as well as I just got here last year from California...what were we thinking huh? It is cold but I have tried 2 approaches to surviving the cold. 1st, I piled free wood chips from the county up and around my IBC shipping container that I use for a Fish Tank about 4' high and wide all around. My sump was already buried below ground so I also covered it with wood chips and leaves from the yard about 2' high. Then I placed a 400watt aquarium heater in the Fish Tank and maintained a temp of about 65F to 70F even when the temps outside dipped to snowing levels.
Hello Brian, I am in Michigan as well. Welcome to the state and good luck with your AP system. TwoJay
