hi kevin,

your avacado tree need not grow larger than you want. we have a number growing in our orchard and whilst some varieties only grow to 4-5m ,the taller types can be pruned to this height and still bear productively.

I just planted mine in soil... forgot to water it for awhile (after initial planting/watering) and remembered and maybe it dried then we thought we killed it a couple times. it lives. it gives us oxygen and takes our space

I just take them out to the rafts as soon after I have eaten them as possible.  I never bother to let them dry.  I have one about 12 in tall still in the raft with 2 more seeds that a starting to sprout.  My problem is I can't grow an avacado tree for  anything w2ether I buy it or sprout it.  I have had one grow to 20 ft but never has more than 5 fruit.  One thing I did in the raft system is sprout an ulu tree (breadfruit) from seed.  My friend who is an avid gardner and who grew up in Samoa says I made history.  Ulu are not grown that way.  They take a piece of the root.  Never the less I have a very healthy ulu tree about 18 inches high.  I wanted to buy one but couldn't find one so I sprouted it.  Aquaponics can even do miracles

So what did you do to get it to grow... just plant the seed straight after you'd eaten the avacado.... or did you let it dry for a while???

I have eaten one avacado in my life (whole from supermarket), planted the seed and grew a tree. we just re potted it as it was too big for the bucket I had it in. unfortunately I don't know where I'll come up with 40 ft of hight to keep it in ohio!
