This is the raft tank (without the rafts in this picture). Water comes in one end from the degassing tank and flows to an exit at the other end of the tank. This is where the plants live and consume the nutrients in the water, thereby cleaning the water for return to the fish tanks. When the water exits this tank, it goes to a water pump, then to the pipes at the top of the fish tanks.

I bought the complete system from Nelson and Pade at http://www.aquaponics.com. (It's their smallest one, and the price is listed there.) I wanted to eliminate the trial-and-error associated with designing one from scratch...
