for raft beds or nft pipes you need some sort of filtration.  If you can have the water go through some gravel beds and then get sent to the NFT or Rafts after the gravel beds you will be better off.

Do you think is not necessary to ad a bio filter in a system like this for the nft ??. this system is what I want to run in my pond see the picture , I build a rack that lean on the wall (left of photo) for the nft and will put the sub tank under the deck were the gravel beds will be just like your diagram In this picture it shows raft bed but I will remove them. You are a great souse of knowledge and information
