I cut my own 'net pots' from plastic mesh sold at a local pond supply store. 2" net pots are very short and would not reach the water running along the bottom. I decided I did not want to run these tubes half-full as I worried that roots would eventually fill so much space as to overflow the pipes.

this medium definitely acts as a 'fines'-catching filter.  my water was significantly more clear soon after planting the pipes!

The most important component on NFT is to have a good clarified and bio filtration unit, many omits. I like the way you make the pot go all the way to the bottom and using "sure to grow" will act as a mini biofilter per each plant, and using just a film of water. I think you got it. To me the letter F on nft is for film meaning a very thin channel of water n nutrients running thru the system not the Mississippi.

basically, i placed the outlet at the bottom of the end cap as low as i could.  with the curvature of the pipe there is probably about 1cm (1/2") or so of water running along the bottom.  the danger is that if the pump ever shut off without my knowing just about all the water would drain out.  fortunately, i'm using a media that actually absorbs water like a sponge and will retain moisture for each plant.

we'll see how it turns out.  i'm hoping the plant roots will enjoy the humid environment and grow all around inside without having to be actually submerged in the 2" of water that others have running inside their pipes with the outlet mounted at the center height.
