Paul the growing media is just Coco fiber. I use the burlap along the outside of the net pot and hang it into the water to wick the water up to the fiber. I have also tried peatmoss and gravel but since the pots dont sit in the water I need a better wick to pull the moisture up until the roots get long enough to hang in the solution.

I'm wondering why you are using the cloth media instead of a quick draining type, like either gravel, hydroton or even a perlite mix. I'm new to this but it would seem that harvesting would be difficult as the roots of whatever you are growing would interweave through a cloth medium necessitating destruction of the media each time you switched to new plantings. I do understand the water retention and lower weight of the cloth....

Paul it is drain tile which is a flexible plastic pipe. The burlap didnt work well as a wick so I am switching to rayon which is a mop I cut up hehe. My ph is to high for strawberries so they failed in the tower. I had so much lettuce I didnt want to plant them with it so they have sat empty to date. I will plant them again this fall with lettuce and see. I will put filtered raft water in them to make them like a NFT tube if that doesnt work. You are right behind me so keep at it. It is really a blast.

David. I really like this idea. Are you still using the burlap and do you think this has been successful? This looks like a standard HVAC tubing; am I correct? like your site, envious of your results!

Hey Charles I havent filled these with gravel yet. I am trying to use bulap as a wick and see how that goes. I am pumping unfiltered fish water so this is an experiment. Kinda nft and wick combo.
