I never did get breeding going in the indoor tank.

The most successful breeding situation I had was when I threw 12 random tilapia into what was my duckweed tank once upon a time. I did this in spring and the water got nice and warm for them and lots of fry did appear. I would guess that the tank was around 300 gallons. Somewhere between 14 and 18 inches deep, 16 feet long and about 30-32 inches wide. I didn't have extra hides in there for them or anything but I guess the big tank allowed for better breeding with less fishy domestic violence.

I think the biggest thing is to have really warm water, like 86 F. A nice long daylight period. And more Females than males. I would probably advise like 5 females for each male and more than a 50 gallon aquarium for them to do their business.

These indoor pictures are old and from when I was trying to do some controlled breeding of tilapia. The big aquarium was moved out side and later broke. I still have a little aquarium set up feeding house plants but it's been fishless for months.
