Invasiveness may be why certification is atleast rumored. These fish do, however, after your description, still intrigue me. They seem to be a thing of patience with a little less risk of losing them (due to temperature loss). Are there other things besides temperature that they tend to be more resilient in or is the longer raising period making their resilience a wash in terms of risk? What I am saying is that patience and low risk seems like the wise thing to do rather than Big And Now or BUST!

Port Elizabeth recently got lumped in with Uitenhage (where I stay now) and Despatch (a place with no real reason for existence!) into a metro of around 1.5 million people, of which PE is by far the biggest slice.  I remember hearing the band on local radia, but if I remember correctly, they spent much of their time overseas, as most SA bands that want to get somewhere eventually do.

The Mozambique tilapia was originally exported all over the world for aquaculture, but its breeding habits made it undesirable, as they stopped growing fast at sexual maturity, which can be very small.  People then started working with Nile and Aurus and all kinds of hybrids.  My fish are selectively bred, thus strictly speaking pure Mozambique genetics.  They can survive at much lower temperatures (sub 50F for days) and breed like rabbits, which likely makes them an invasion risk in your part of the world.  They taste just as good as any of the more typical aquaculture varieties, although their flesh is a bit darker, thus people that prefer a pure white fillet might not like them.

They are beautiful. I have heard something about licensing here with anything but blue tilapia? I'm not sure. I would love to have a fish this beautiful in my system. Do they taste good too? (very cool about your home town- is it a small town, did you know them?)

You requested them did you not :).  I think it is too difficult most of the time to get good pics of the fish in a system.  I'll keep at it, but these will have to do for now.

These are all colour variations of Mozambique tilapia.  The Benjamin Gate is from my home town of Port Elizabeth, but they disbanded about 10 years ago.

What kind of fish do you have here? I am listening to The Benjamin Gate right now. Do you know who they are? they're from South Africa but I don't know where.
