Looking for Tilapia and Trout in Southern Indiana

I hava a complete system that needs a home. It is 3' x 7' redwood with a pool liner, hydrocorn, bell syphon raised bed above a 100gal fish tank. It also has a removable garden cover that I use during the winter. )what winter?? I'm moving to a new location and don't have the room for it. Included is a pump, heaters and whatever else is wanted. Please call for pictures or to talk about your interest in this system.
Tilapia are breeders. They will multiply even when you aren't trying to get them to but if you are trying to grow your stock then you can get 300-500 per litter. Word of caution.... unless you have the space don't try to keep them all. I made that mistake and it really slows the growth process because you have to limit the food unless you have enough filtration to handle it.
Jeff,
I am going to use Red Tilapia. Had thought of using Red Claw Crayfish; but visited someone who had some and they to time intensive just to take care of them never-alone the entire setup. And for whatever reason they are like cattle, when they stampede (start eating one another) it is contagious between them. Plus I live on a big lake and if I get to many female Tilapia I can always sell as bait to the fishermen who are going after strippers.

Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky - Is anyone doing Aquaponics in this area? I need help with my setup. Had it going for almost a year and nothing really grows. Need a helping hand.
Craig, I found mine on (pardon the pun) Craig's List. Paid $35 semi cleaned non food grade. As long as they aren't strong chemical or heavy oils you can probably clean them sufficiently. While most of the info you find online is good I think sometimes it goes to the extreme in some matters such as tanks you can use. What kind of fish do you plan to use? To play it safe you can throw some cheap goldfish in the tanks and see how they fair.
Jeff, Where did you find your totes, even if they are not food quality?
Thanks, Craig
Where is the nearest place I can buy tilapia fingerlings in Southern Illinois? I have the permit required already. Thanks
IBCs are great if you have the space for them. I've been toying with the idea of aquaponic dutch buckets. The reasons are 1. they require less media as you can space and size them for individual plants 2. They are easier to move if needed 3. They can be extended to the outside in the summer if you like. You would still get the filtration needed for your fish once the bacteria are established. An IBC FT can feed a lot of plants if you have room for them.
If, I was building a greenhouse system then IBCs would be the most economical way to go. I have thought of a small hoop house system for some time, right now I dont have a real good place for it. It could be.

Derrick, I got lucky and found unlimited IBCs for $35. They aren't "food grade". They were used for a water soluble degreaser, solvent to clean machines. I washed them thoroughly and they work fine. I wouldn't use them if they were harsh chemicals or oils though. What I'm saying is that unless you're going totally "organic" you have cheaper options.
