@Pat - Thanks,  I have not had good luck with water cress in my warm garden room, but I planted some seeds outside in a raft system last August.  I just noticed that they are beginning to grow even though the temperature has been getting down to 32F at night.  I've been planning my next crop, I guess I better plant water cress before it gets hot again.

My water cress prefers mild temps to cool. It took off when the temp dropped to below 70 in the green house. It is still going strong and the green house is from 55-45 most days.

My son has yet to get on board with aquaponics but he lives in Hutto TX so I thought I would join this group.  I'm a little surprised at the lack of activity here.  Maybe that's good - no problems to solve.

I have two aquaponic systems.  My first was built indoors with an 800 gallon tank and the second outdoors using IBC,s.  I'm in the process of expanding the outdoor system's grow beds with bunk feeders.   I also keep a BLOG where I write about troubles and everything I learn.

I'll be using the new GM style of rafts where the roots are suspended above the water.

Ok thanks anyways. We have beds withe the gravel/granite mix now. Just wanted to see how shale did. If anyone comes across local shale, let me know.

I found it in Dallas, but you are near the granite that I wish  I could afford to transport to Waco  I wish I was close to that like you are.

Anyone know where to get expanded shale in the Austin area? We live out near marble falls.

I found that they sell it at the aqua-dome as well. I appreciate the heads up though. I may not worry with it.
