Fishless Cycle, high nitrites

I'm fishless cycling, on day 31 today. My nitrites have been 5+ since day 11 (showed up day 7), so they have been off the charts for 20 days. Nitrates have been there since day 8 and are at 40 today…Continue

- HI! I'm born and raise in Texas, living near the Austin Area now (Go Horns, Go Texans), but originally from Southeast Texas. I'm college educated but not working - BORING! I'm new to Aquaponics, but I'm obsessed, and that's okay. I'm in the process of planning my first outdoor-backyard system. It'll be small compared to what some of y'all have though. It's going to be a 70 gallon stock tank, with a custom built grow bed (my husband is super handy that way) filled with crushed granite, with a continuous flow and drained with a siphon.
70g FT to 56g ST pumped to GB siphoned back to FT.
FT and ST on same level.
(GB = 15sf = 6'long x 30"wide x 10"deep filled with 9" of crushed granite)
