Today I started putting in the rows of Vertigro stacks outside the south wall of the Greenhouse. I will keep my frost tolerant stuff growing here. I may turn off the circulation during the night if it gets cold.
So first I lay down weed cloth and then old shade cloth on top of that.
I had to build the stacks 19" up so the return plumbing could go back to the Float/sump tanks in the greenhouse. I drove 3/8 rebar in the ground and then drove 1/2 emt over that. I love the excuse to buy a 4 lb hand sledge. Next I connected 10ft 1/2" emt with a piece of rebar to make it 16 ft long. Then I used 1" pvc Ts to connect the 1/2" emt so I could zip tie the 1" pvc plumbing to it. This is all on the bottom. You can see it here in these pics. I loaded them as Large pics - you will have to click on the photo to zoom in. I will take more pics for an Album when I am done tomorrow. It was late and dark so they are not that clear.
The tops are attached to the bamboo I grew a few years ago. I have a 1" pvc line down the middle that will bring the flow to them. More tomorrow.
I have completed the plumbing for the Outside Vertigro stacks. It works!! I love it a plan comes together. (Hannibal). Now that I have said that I am sure the murphy rule will strike soon. So back to the build. I used the collection system that was inside the greenhouse before I built the flood/sump thanks. Now that I am using the med coir chips I expect I will get less overflow from saturated pots that I was getting inside. I plumbed both rows to one central 1" line. Plus the collection pots are bottom plumbed to the same line at the end. You can see this in the pics. I had to build it up so that it would drain to the tank inside the greenhouse. About 16" high. At the top I use the cyclone fence aluminum ties to hold the top of the Vertigro stacks to the Bamboo. I plumbed the flow through a 1" pipe from the indexing Valve to the 1/2 " gate valves to 1/4 drip tubing in end caps.
Here are some pics and a link to the Album.
