So there is a different permit for wild caught fish?

If you are raising them in a backyard system for personal consumption no.

I've never heard of a farming permit.  Most permits have more to do with what is being done with the products.  If it is all for personal consumption then no.  If you are say, selling chicken, meat, eggs, milk, or produce or anything that requires processing in a certified kitchen then yes there are regulations you have to deal with.

If you plan to sell and transport fish, then there is an aquaculture permit.

but is the aquaculture certificate from DACS still needed?

and also, are there any farming permits here in Florida?

In most of Florida, Blue Tilapia are the exception to the permit rule.  You need an aquaculture permit to grow any other type of tilapia other than blue tilapia.  Blues have already escaped here in FL years ago and you can find them naturalized in most Florida waters now.

I just bought my grow beds. They are in the truck as we speak. I got 2 Rubbermaid 100 gallon stock tanks.

what kind of permit is needed to grow blue tilapia?

Fortunately, no damage besides a piece of styrofoam from the raft bed got smashed to pieces because it got carried to a very high speed. I saw the whole thing... And it happened when the storm first hit, which clued me in to tie things down. The plants didn't seem to care though. Glad you are okay! :-t

Did anyone else fall victim to the destructive storms across Florida these last few days?

At Morning Star Fishermen in Dade City, FL - the 60+ mile per hour winds tore off a portion of the roof in the main greenhouse building. Plus we had fallen trees, 3 wash outs that are over 3-4 ft deep that are quickly looking more like sink holes, not to mention a torn up/washed out road. Whew! We survived though.

How is everyone doing? Are your aquaponic systems still up & running after these storms? How about your buildings, greenhouses and shelters? We pray that everyone is ok.

P.S. If anyone can volunteer or help in any way, we would greatly appreciate it as we are in great need of help. Thank you and God Bless!

Blue Gill might also be a good choice for them then if they can stand a longer grow out.  They can get blue gill from Florida Fish Farms I believe.
