I have since last Wed gotten a Nitrite spike, rising from less than .15 ppm to 3 ppm.  I think it may be due to over feeding, although I don't find much food residue on the bottom of the tank.  Not…Continue

I've got some plain old bug zappers but would be interested in ones that only knock the bugs down rather than frying them first.
I've seen some fancy fish feeder lights that twirl a whip around below the light to knock the bugs down but I couldn't justify paying that much for a light.

If you go online and do a search for AquaMax you should find a web site where you can also do a search for local purina mills dealers and get a list of feed stores with addresses and phone numbers so you can call and ask them to get a bag of the Aqua Max 4000 put on the next truck. When the fingerlings are really small I sometimes get a bag of Aqua Max 400 which is higher protein and smaller pellets.

@Steve, I have also begun to do this for my fish. I have an electric florescent bug killer similar to the old bug zappers but instead of burning the insect up in a more marketable "ZAP", the unit gives enough juice to knock the fella down into the pond below. I figure with the abundance of insects and the cheap wattage this little bug killer uses I have found a smart way of supplementing the fishes food. I thought I was the only one to think of tapping into the insects as a means of feeding the fish. Good job! :)

Hi TCLynx,
Where do you purchase the Purina "Aqua Max 4000"?
I have tried to search on line and have not found any local retailers around Lake Mary / Winter Park.

Well, I'm now a catfish grower too.....lol. I just got about 20 from TC. I guess they are around 6 inches or so. I added them to my 500 gallon main tank , with the tilapia.

In our 10m3 (10,000 liter, 2,640 gallons) aquaponics tank we fertilize for green water and feed duckweed twice a day. We also have a small solar powered light hung just over the waters surface that attracts a huge supply of tasty insects for the catfish.

My main fish tank is now about 700 gallons. I feed what they will eat in 15 minutes twice a day. I don't necessarily know what much that is to the gram. Aqua Max 4000 Dense culture feed. It's a purina product.

That is quite a fish. It could gobble up my 20 catfish and want more. Mine are 6-8". How much food do you feed and what type of food? Also how large is your fish tank?
