Dr. Iron

Hello everyone. I'm looking for chelated iron to add to my system and I'm not able to locate any locally. I was able to find a product called Dr. Iron. They are little black pellets that contain 55% Sulfur and 22% Iron. There are no other ingredients on the list so I'm not sure what makes up the other 23%. Is anyone out there familiar with this product and it's safety for the little fishies?

Can't speak the fishies but I worry a bit about too much sulfur for the plants.  It is a micronutrient that plants need in small amounts, but it can definitely become toxic if it is in too high a concentration in a hydroponic solution.  This has a little bit on it  http://www.hydroponicsbc.com/nutrients.html.  Could be fine, but just something to keep an eye on...

In my part of the world, pure chelated iron is found in nursery supply stores as a plant micro-nutrient supplement together with all the other fertilizers and additives.  Is it not easily available in the same form over in the US?

Aron dont use the sulphur iron mix. That is a soil additive for loosening up clay soils and the sulphur is way to high. You can buy iron in the pure form on the net. I get iron from my agro chemical supply house out here. Be careful.

Thanks for the suggestions and information gang! Kobus, unfortunately aquaponics has not had a very large movement up here in Alaska. Although we do have a hydroponics store in town, their selection is fairly limited. 

With that in mind, I went to Sylvia's online store and bought some of the MaxiCrop Liquid Seaweed with Iron along with an Aquarium Test Kit since I ran out of the supplies for mine.

Hopefully it will get here quickly. I'm really interested to see my ammonia/nitrite/ate levels since a couple days ago the nitrites just spiked. It'll be interesting to see how long the cycling takes to complete. Grow bacteria, grow!!!
