Yes, just make sure that the gravel is PH neutral by letting it sit in a bucket of water and testing the PH over a couple of days, or do the fizz test in a cup a vinegar. If you see bubbles rising than it is not PH neutral. Also consider putting the gravel at the bottom and the clay balls on the top as they are easier to work with.
