I am setting up my first system and i have everything in place but i am concerned about the timing of my flood and drain.
I am currently filling my grow bed in about 2-3 minutes, and it takes about 30 seconds to drain. I have a great break and start cycle, but i am worried if the frequency of each flood/drain is to often and might affect the health of the composting worms when i reach that part of the new system. There will be 3-4 inches of dry media for the worms to migrate if needed as well.
Worms breath through their skin and can be completely submerged as long as the water is oxygenated. That doesn't sound like it will be a problem for you.
I have read other topics and they can breathe through their skin but I wasnt able to find a topic where the person had a fast drain cycle and said they was using worms. Granted worms are used in almost all aquaponic systems but assumptions can get a person in the wrong direction.
Now I can press on with my new setup and not be worried that its faulty.
