Purchasing Farmed Fish

I live in the Bremerton area and I am trying to locate the closest business that will sell baby rainbow trout. I found a place in Olympia at www.nisquallytrout.com but was hoping for something a little closer. Any ideas?

But I think its about the same distance. I bought some arctic Charr eggs from trout lodge and am in the process of hatching them. If it works I will have way too many fish for my system. Interested? I'm in Port Angeles, about the same distance as you to olympia a suppose.

Here is a link to the WDFW certified suppliers. If you go through these it seems to be easer to get transport permits. http://wdfw.wa.gov/licensing/fish_transport/certified_growers_2013.pdf

The way i read the reg was you need a transport license if you are not a comercial intenty

Now I am confused..... If I am getting fish for personal use do I need a business license to apply for a transport permit?

Thanks I'll keep it in mind but I am east side and it gets way too hot to keep trout through the summer without doing something to chill the water. Since I just got my "practice" system online I am looking to do goldfish until I can put a 100+ gal system together outside. Trout would look good in my aquarium but I think they would out grow it fast.

Arctic Char is also a trout. And yes, you can feed them pellets.

Yep.  But we always get a transport license anyhow.  The first thing I am asked for by Nisqually or Trout Lodge, ever though I have purchased from each a couple times is my Aqua Farm commercial license.

 

I have trout for sale now if you need them.  They are pretty big, about 3 pounds.  I have about 70 - 3 pounders.  Call me at 360-697-7880 if you need some.  I sell in small quantities.  Soon I will have about 1,000 - 1 pound trout.

I want to start out small by stabilizing my garage system before expanding into my greenhouse. I have much to learn before expanding. I don’t have a huge amount of growing space in my garage, nor do I have a large tank. I have a 30 gallon fish tank (meant for fingerlings) and about 6 square feet of growing space. My objective is to purchase enough fish to complete my system… and as the fish grow too big for my small tank, I want to transfer them to the pond that I will be building inside the greenhouse. For now I just need enough fish to feed approximately 6 square feet of plants.

I made the same mistake with new food grade IBCs. Everyone was wanting them. The minimum quantity that I could buy in quantity was 70 food grade IBCs out of the mid-west and have them trucked to my farm in Poulsbo.

I got them, new food grade IBCs with the paperwork and tried to sell them for $90.00 each (a 15% mark-up) and all of a sudden everyone went silent. People did not show up to get them. I wound up selling most of them to apple juice processors in Leavenworth and Yakima and lost my behind in the deal.

You want fingerlings buy them at Petsmart, Petco or Farm and Feed stores. They get them out of the Midwest and they are full of diseases like Ick.

Last season I sold 1,000 – 1 pound rainbow trout for $10.00 each. No one from Aquaponic Gardening showed up to buy.

Those fish can't really handle colder waters very well like trout can. Also, I was really looking forward to eating them in the long run. I've never eaten gold fish before but I'm pretty certain that they aren't typically eaten for a reason. Thank you for your feedback by the way
