I am starting a small indoor system, and I have kept worm bins for several years and used compost tea on plants. Does anyone know if making a compost tea, and soaking hydroton in it for a while, then rinsing, would help establish a healthy bacterial population? Some sites have mentioned nitrosamonas as one species commonly in vermicompost.

I'm sure that it would! Give it a try and give us the results. That's going to get a lot of other important bacteria in your system as well.

I too would be interested in your results.  I used it prior to installing my vertical towers and didn't see any major change...  But I have to believe it helps.  I use it in my hydro system for two purposes:  1) it cleans my lines (I have no earthly idea why) and 2) my plants love it.  Obviously I started with #2 as my focus and discovered 1 along the way.

Thanks.  I will be starting it up this week, and will report.
