Well, this cucumber seems to be on its way out. Which is okay, I guess; it's been trying to run away for the last month or so :) I got some baking soda spray on the leaves when I was trying to get rid of mildew and it didn't seem to like that, unless something else is going on...

What do you guys think this is? It looks as if the leaves are disintegrating in some spots on the plant.

Are all the leaves like that Alex or just the older leaves?
Excellent question Bart. Its in the older leaves. What deficiency are you thinking?

Alex,

About cucumbers, could you give us a little history?  How much fruit did it make and how did you harvest it.  Were any of the cukes there for a while?  Here is the deal with cukes.  If you want them to keep producing you have to continually pick the fruit as it comes to term but before it actually goes to term.  If  you leave it on there too long the plant will think it has done it's job and retire.  Much like I did.  Your plant looks exactly like mine does.  I had a really good harvest, but I overlooked one cuke that was hanging underneath the grow table.  That one fruit gave my plant the signal that it had done it's job and started the dying cycle.  I too thought something was wrong and added various things relating to mobile and immobile nutrients and nothing made any difference.  The rest of the plants are doing fine so I dug a little deeper and the above is what I concluded.  Am I right?  Shucks, I don't know, but it does make me feel better about that old plant.

I think I've just identified this problem while doing some casual reading. Pesticide burn. Not that I was using pesticides, but my earlier hunch was correct: treating the cucumbers with baking soda while exposed to the grow lights caused them to bleach and burn.

So, take away: Don't apply foliar sprays when plants are exposed to sunlight or grow lights, wait till things cool down a little.

It's fun when you aren't even looking for the answer to something and it just strolls over and slaps you across the face.

I find that it happens often.  Kinda lofty and spiritual and all that.
