Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

I am looking for a source of YP fingerlings in Maine (or near).

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Try calling your state fish and game department.  They may have a list of hatcheries.

I wasn't sure if the hatcheries were for public sale. Thanks.

Illinois DNR had a list of private fish suppliers along with info on the state-run hatcheries. Our state hatcheries don't sell to the public, but the DNR list did have a nearby private hatchery. That is probably a good place to try.

Oregon has the same type of list. We have to get a permit to transport viable species, but the permit wasn't too bad to get. Fish and wildlife certify the hatcheries (private) and list the certified vendors.

Thanks. I have an e-mail request submitted with Maine Fisheries so I'll report back.

depending on how many you need, i know of one place in ohio that ships..

I'm interested. Please relay their info.

I asked Maine if they had such a list. Standby.

another good place to check would be your county's soil and water division, they usually deal with pond stocking

Is there a forum here for Rainbow Trout? Guy from Maine Dept of Fisheries said he might be able to hook me up with these. Thanks.

Lots of trout growers here and there is a trout group. I tried a couple times, but I have a small setup and they didn't work out very well. They like cold water, so they may work out well with your climate and they grow pretty fast.

Thanks. Found and joined Trout group.
