Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

We are setting up an aquaponic system, in our garage, we live in Canada where the seasons are very severe, What we would like to do is move the system outside in the summer and, fall,  back to the indoors in the winter.  If anyone has any suggestions if this would work we would appreciate the input.   I'm using a 55 gal. barrel, which we cut in half to house both fish and plants. Very excited to get started and see what we can grow.

I am a newbie myself. I live in Oklahoma and have then same concerns as you.  I am going to build a system on a trailer so that it will be mobile.   the main issue I believe will be to seal the containers of the fish to minimize sloshing during transport.

Thanks Michael....Thats a very good idea and would be easy enough to do.

make sure you go with a very light grow medium because let me tell ya...gravel is very heavy. I would suggest just a compartmentalized system with a extra barrel to put your water and fish in while moving your system....plants are a breeze to move in your system I just pulled all mine out today because I had a issue with my gravel getting clogged...added a bunch of lava rock works much better now....i have never had any transplant shock like you do with soil pull your plants keep the root ball wet move your system and replace.
