Adding salts

There was a discussion on here the other day where Vlad suggested adding salts (sodium chloride, potassium chloride and epsom salts) i was wondering how often do you add this mixture?

I dumped in another 40 pound bag of salt the day before yesterday. Nitrite is still high, so I'm hoping it helps. I did find 2 dead cats yesterday and 3 or 4 minnows, so I know the fish are stressed.

i may have went overboard i put half a cup of epsom salt into my 350 gal system can any tell me did i do a booboo or is it ok right now still in fishless cycling stage , all chem test came back great and ph dropped from 7.9 to 6.9

No Dustin, you're just fine. Epsom salt is harmless, and I wouldn't necessary say you added that much for your system volume.

I accidently nuked my plants by adding too much salt.  Starting all over now.
