Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi,
I can't believe that I found this forum let alone the world of Aquaponics. I have been a Gardner and aquarium owner for as long as I can remember. Now I get to grow fish and produce together in a self-contained system that requires very little space, water and once fully established back breaking work. I ask is there anything better?

I have a standard IBC system. 160 gallon tank and 40 gallon grow bed. I am looking to add 2 more beds soon. It has a bell siphon and cycles every 21 mins. The pump is 350, and I added 2 air stones.

Water evaporation became an issue so I put a float in and simple ice maker filter to the city water line. Problem solved.

The whole system runs on my solar panels.

I love Aquaponics❤

Aquaponics is pretty amazing isnt it?
And having free access to all this accomplished biological expertise is making it quite easy for brand new gateway hobbyists to dive right in to their first system design.

I would very much like the convenience of direct tap water from city water lines, but I just don't trust the source (san diego has very dirty tap water) and I have no experience with filtration.
how does this ice maker filter idea work?

How nice it would be to have a good water supply.  Our town water adds ammonia (1ppm) to our system...and a higher pH....and chlorine...and who knows what else!

How does your solar system work?

Got space for a rain barrel? Along with permission from the government? :)

you can get a water filter at most walmarts for under 50 bucks they last up to 3 months. and remove most all the bad stuff the ones I use are made for r.v. water systems and hood right up to a water hose.
