I was wondering the same thing. Anyone who could give some insight would be amazing!
Also, how frequently will I need to test the water for ammonia/nitrites/nitrates/ph/etc (trying to figure out how long x amount of strips would last)
Thanks in advance
You will want to use a fresh water API test. I've provided a link below.

When cycling your tank you will want to test your water on a daily basis. However, once your system is cycle you can test as little as once a week. My system has been running for four months and I generally test about twice a week unless I know I am having water quality issues in which case I begin testing everyday until the issue is resolved.
thank you very much. i was wondering how to get ammonia and nitrate testers in one kit. have you ever heard of that floating ammonia indicator? i'm interested if that would be practical for use in aquaponics

API freshwater test kit all the way. This is the cheapest and most accurate way to keep tabs on the condition of your system.
