Rice hulls

Has anyone used rice hulls instead of pearlite?  I have been reading where organic inground farmers have been using it. I would like to hear any thoughts on it.

Pete, Rice hulls work good for me. I use them every time I plant something in the dirt. Something I plan to try is carbonized rice hull. Think this would work even better.

Rice hulls are very absorbent, we use them to absorb oil on the race track instead of cat litter.  Not sure they would be too good in a net pot though
