I will be buying pond liner for my grow beds and I am confused as to which thickness is better for lining a grow bed. 45mil or the 20mil? And are all of them safe for me to grow food in?

I use recycled billboard tarps from billboardtarps.com. They are 15-17mil but 12 x 30 feet was like $65 shipped.  works fine for tanks and beds. They are UV resistant as well.

For gravel beds, and home systems, the 45 mil epdm firestone pondguard pond liner is a good choice for durability against damage by gravel.  For building an in ground ornamental pond that will go up against gravel and plat roots, hands down I would chose the EPDM liner especially for folding into more complex shapes.

For very rectangular raft beds the durascrim is good.

I have not yet tested the Durascrim DS20WW against heavy gravel but it seems fairly durable and has the benefit of not being stretchy and being polyethylene and Friendlies got their aquaponics system certified organic while using that pond liner.

I use durascrim for raft troughs and for my cinder beds. The material is very durable and will handle some sharp edges as long as there is too much weight. My cinder is very light and close to half of it floats during washing. I would not use it with heavier rock medias. It should work great with hydroten but I have not tried it due to its cost.. Durascrim has been approved food grade and is acceptable for organic certification.

If your interested in Durascrim here is a link to purchase it pre cut sizes and free shipping, it might be helpful. Comes in 6' by 50' and 6' by 100'.

Crazy pricing on that material. I'll stick with 8 year UV resistant pvc sheeting for 1/6th the price.
