Yes as I mentioned this platform’s applications are virtually endless. You can monitor and control both actively and passively or use PID controlling.
I will look up Kobus.
Also there is so much info availible on the arduino platform that starting up is a breeze.. So get hold of one and start playing. Order directly from them.

Kobus definitely ran into a lot of frustration trying to get funding for aquaponics in SA. He hasn't been able to be very active here lately with the move and new job but hopefully it is going well for him and I do hope we see him more in the future when he can get back into aquaponics some.
I havent had the time to make contact yet but I will do so soon. As for goverrment I know a couple of guys that might just listen.
We have a system that is currently used to manage temp and humidity as well as water levels and other things.
Adding the PH and DO sensor is easy. The system can be monitored remote.

Hello,
I've pretty much finished a basic software package that will allow a standard PC to log data and produce graphs of the data. It would require either a properly programmed PIC 16F688 micro or an Arduino Uno to feed the PC data. The PC can be just about anything that will support a Debian 6.0 installation. To use a PIC as a remote data collection device would require that the PC have an old school RS-232 port but the Arduino works with a USB port. If this is what you are looking for, let me know and I'll get it pushed out. If you can get Debian installed on an old PC I'm sure you can install my software.

Our system runs atached to a pc as well and conects via usb.
It is a PIC based system as well. We sell a standard board with 64 inputs and 16 relays.
Our software is written in VB and allows the user to create rules based upon inputs and relay status.
EX: if InsideTemp > 75.5 then FanRelay = On
if FanRelay = On and InsideTemp > 80 then Fan2Relay = On

John R Thanks for the info, 99% of the time I try to stay with MS Windows configuration systems. Rather than trying to re-educate myself on a new operating system. But It's great information, and since you already know what your talking about you should put together a package and sell the equipment. Ya I see that you are great!
In the last couple years I am sure y'all have made great strides in AP automation - what systems do you use, how is the pricing, and how well does it work for you? There are commercial systems out there but i am honestly more interested in "home grown" solutions

Since my system is outside, I made a monitoring system using an Arduino with a WiFi shield. The system reports back through my home WiFi router to a web server which then stores the data for displaying and sends out automated alerts via email. I am currently measuring air and tank temperature, humidity, light, tank water level, grow bed up & down, ebb and flow system up & down, and my pond feeder feedings. I could have set it up to measure pH and ORP, but the sensors were expensive and I was looking more at detecting gross failures. The common alerts I get are on low water level and when pump failures.
