Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi Everyone,

I have been raising tilapia indoors since last summer. This year I want to move my largest fish to an outdoor system. The fish tank will be a 275 gallon tote. I want to move the fish out as early in the spring as possible. Any ideas on heating/cooling the tank? I would actually like to set it up in March if possible because I want the tank to cycle a bit before I put the fish into it. I would appreciate any advice you could give me.

I bought some insulating wraps and some foam insulation board. I'm going to put two 2" boards under it and use another to make a top and then wrap the entire thing in the blankets. And it will sit in the shade all year, so I don't think that will be a problem. I'm hoping that I will only have to heat it in the early spring and late fall.

Hi Windy,

I am a DC resident trying to get involved with aquaponics but am just starting out.

If you would like any help insulating your system or would be willing to give a tour, I'd love to check out the operation and help out if possible!

Best,

Phil
