I ran across an aquaponics system manufacturer this weekend and can't get them off my mind. They're called Fishy Farm and they are out of Oregon. In particular, they have a picture on Facebook that got me excited about the possibilities of continuing my aquaponics efforts even though I have moved to Michigan. I am confident the 100 gallon system would work well in my basement, but a picture with snow in the background got me hoping that I might be able to keep an outside system going.
Does anyone here happen to have one of these systems? Their primary outdoor system seems to be 350 gallons.

Interesting.
They certainly look pretty.
I wish there was an easier way to see what their shipping prices are without having to enter personal information and set up an account with them first. If they happen to be near you, then I expect the costs could be reasonable but if you have to have it freighted then I doubt many people will go for paying probably twice the price with shipping.
Would be nice if they actually gave details about the product sizes.
I would agree that in all but the most mild of tropical climates, 300 gallons of fish tank is about as small as one should go for an outdoor system to keep the temperature swings from becoming dangerous to the fish.
I am sure the shipping will put these out of my budgetary reach. It looks like they may be available in kit form as a DIY kit.
But that doesn't make the shipping any better (their tank and bed coating kinda mean that the box shape of the beds/tanks isn't going to collapse down into flat boards for shipping a kit.)
It sounds like they are going to fix the shipping issue soon. I've learned that they plan to sell franchises. The franchisee will manufacture the systems locally.
Interesting concept...
Kinda like a plug-n-play Aquaponics .....

Great post/link..

If you are really handy, get yourself the plywood/fiberglass tank manual from Friendlies and use the info you learn from that to build your own wood beds/tanks.
Totally agree TCLynx...excellent advice as aways :-)
God bless

The free version is pretty informative. I just finished reading it, but building tanks myself is a little out of my comfort zone. I might be able to build a small version, but for my basement I am leaning toward a barrelponics system.
If I still lived in Florida, I'm sure I would already have the Microsystem in my backyard. Living in Michigan presents its' own additional set of problems. The growing season is very short. I am doubtful that I could grow out edible fish in a May 1 to September 30 typical growing season. I live in a subdivision for starters. It also gets down to -10 degrees F for a couple of weeks every year (maybe two or three different times).
