Just some thoughts. First, if the fishes' mucus layer over the scales were damaged or being irritated, you would see the stringy damaged mucus coming from the fish. The ones in the shot seemed fine. I did not see a lot of aeration in the tank, unless you switched it off for the photo, yet there are a lot of gas bubbles in the slime, suggesting bubbles were trapped or excreted. It is transparent, thus if the slime itsself was the origin of the bubbles, it can be bacteria. I had a slime covering that looked a bit like translucent jelly along much of the margin of my fish tank at one stage when there were no fish in it. Perhaps a glob of bacteria that got dislodged from a pipe? That or something is irritating the mucus layer of your fish. Never had this with my tilapia to this point. Does this show up often?
My fish tank that houses my tilapia has the same thing. maybe it's tilapia fish slime.
I would probably scoop it out and just keep an eye on things.
Hi Chi,
How long have you had this floating in your system?
