Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hi everyone. I finished my Aquaponic system about 10 days ago and would like to get your opinion on whether I should put the pump on a timer or shall I have it running 24/7 as I have been?

I've loaded a video on Youtube and here's the link. I hope this is not against the forum guidelines. If it is please some one let me know and I'll remove the link.

Thanks,

You can even put the video right into your posts, like this

Hum, Let me see if I can find my Wicks in NFT cups to help you with germination and allow you to let your plants have a bit more dry.

One thing you system is missing and it is likely to give you a problem here eventually.
YOU DON'T HAVE FILTRATION!!!!!

Yes all wet surfaces in a system act as surface area for the bacteria but in NFT it is rarely enough to support much fish and without a solids filter, the roots of your plants are likely to get gunked up too which will cause them to suffer. You might want to look into making a bucket or bin type bio-filter that you place on a shelf up just before the start of your fist pipe. Then you pump up into the bottom of that bio-filter and the water will flow out of that into your pipes and it will help you a lot here in the near future.

Ok going to look for the wick info for you

Ok here is the link cups with wicks

Oh, and leave the water running 24/7  You don't need a timer.

Thanks for the tips. I do have a wick made out of a cut up towel in one cup. It seems to work well. And it has collected a lot of the gunk. Which means what you said is right, i do need a solids filtration. I will get on that. Thanks again

P.s. I can post videos directly.. cool

Well, you can use the media button (third from the left at the top of the text box) to post them onto here from youtube.  They still have to hosted on the internet somewhere already.

You can upload pictures directly here though and post them into your messages using the Image button which is right next to the link button.  Or they can be placed into a message from somewhere else on the web like this.

Thank you again Lynx. Been watching your videos. Wonderful stuff.
