Aquaponic Gardening

A Community and Forum For Aquaponic Gardeners

Hello all I need some help and advice. I have grown some basil in my system about 109 plants with room to add allot more and they are doing really well. I have given the basil to allot of friends and co-workers to use at home ect. I was at a farmers market the other day and a lady had an organic stand and was selling a couple of pieces of basil small, for a dollar a bag. I was shocked at the small size and amount for a dollar. I went home and looked at how much basil I have and said I can’t just let this go to seed and waste or just dry it all out. I need to sell some. So I printed up some business cards and hit some of the local Italian restaurants with some hefty samples of basil and my card. They were all blown away at the size and flavor and seemed very interested in purchasing some from me very soon. They wanted me to be competitive with the price of what they are paying for their basil right now. I don’t know what to charge and need some advice of what I have gotten myself into????

I've never actually added the epsom salts to any of my systems but I think I might need to add some to my tower system.

I've been using the Sprint 330 also and in my big system with it's shells I usually add a heaping table spoon to each grow bed under the water inlet but I probably only do this about once a month or when the plants are really complaining to me since I'm kinda lazy.  (Taking to your plants isn't crazy but I'm not sure what it means when your plants talk to you.)

Are there other iron products that work as well? I haven't found Sprint 330 locally and to have it shipped it is rather expensive.

It's rather expensive stuff really.  There is a 660 product I've seen at BWI and I was going to get it but the cost was like 3 times as much as the 330.

I know of people who have used maxicrop with Iron but I haven't seen it locally here either.

Unfortunately the inexpensive Iron products I've found around here are not chelated and so probably only good for foliar feeding in my systems.

After reading this thread, I noticed in our local grocery story "Live Basil -- locally grown" (in the next state).

They were selling two plants for $3.99 -- hydroponically grown, roots attached.
